The Prime Minister, Rishi Sunak visited the Woking Community Hospital on Thursday 11 April 2024 with Woking MP, Jonathan Lord, to meet with staff and learn more about the Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) which is due to be fully operational later this year.

During the visit, the Prime Minister spoke with Project Director, Stephen Hepworth and Medical Director, Dr David Fluck from Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust about the plans for the development and the difference it will make for the residents of North West Surrey.

He also met with Lead Dexa Radiographer, Marie Richards and a patient due to have a bone density (DEXA) scan to learn more about the benefits of having a local site providing this service and experience of using the site.

The Woking CDC is a key development for Woking Community Hospital and North West Surrey. It will offer additional capacity for diagnostic testing such as x-rays ultrasounds, cardiac and respiratory testing, and will help to reduce waiting times for patients.

Stephen Hepworth said:

We were delighted to welcome the Prime Minister to Woking Community Hospital and showcase our plans for the Centre and the benefits it will bring to the local community by providing services closer to home. Once fully operational, we expect the Centre to see over 100,000 people a year.

The Woking Centre is part of the wider CDC plans across the Surrey Heartlands Health and Care System and the capital to develop the centre has been provided by NHSE.

It is being developed by Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, working in close collaboration with CSH Surrey, primary care, Alliance Medical Ltd and partners operating out of Woking Community Hospital.

It is also being supported by Rotary Clubs of Woking, League of Friends of Woking Community Hospital and Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals Charity.
